Are You Curious What Is So Special About These Recipes? {Pay It Forward}

I knew I was and am looking forward to sharing these “unique and sentimental” stories shared with me!

How “scrummily delicious” do these Phyllo Snails with Apples and Cream look from Katerina of Culinary Flavours?

I know you will be surprised to know that I met Katerina at a food party too!

I could go for one of these right now…you?

Also, I do know scrummily is not an English word, but a word that I created in childhood when most adults thought I was speaking another language; especially about food!

Katerina shared that “one of the most loving memories I have from my childhood is that of my grandmother from my mom’s side!”

I was very spoiled by grandparents in the States when I was little too!

Katerina continued via her blog:

“My grandmother was a very strong person with so much love for her grandchildren and good food. She and my grandfather came here from Asia Minor after Greece lost the war from Turkey… She loved me so much and she spoiled me tremendously, but this is what grandparents should do, isn’t it?”

Hands up, who could go for a slice (or two) of this Sour Cream Chocolate Cake from Kim of Ninja Baking?

Have you ever gotten caught eating (or in Kim’s instance) “licking” something you were not supposed to?

Kim and I “just connected” food wise and share very similar philosophies in life…to be the best every day one can be and nothing but smiles all around, especially on a rainy day!

I wonder if Kim likes to S-P-L-A-S-H in puddles like me?

Kim shared that her “Nona’s chocolate cake was heavenly,” and that “although reserved for special occasions, the cake was nothing fancy.”

Kim never replicated her Nona’s cake, but this recipe she shared “comes pretty close.”

Is your dad (or someone who is like a dad) special to you?

Tribute-dadEvery time I read and re-read A Tribute to My Dad by Shari of Pure Grace Farms, I smile, my skin tingles with reliving wonderful dad (and family car excursions), and now that my dad smiles down from the heavens every day, I know my dad and I always chose to let each other know how much we loved each other; face it, no one knows when the last time will be.

If for nothing else in sharing this wonderful, heart-felt post, please take the time to tell your dad you love him….oh, and mum too!!

I think people worldwide might be able to relate to what Shari shared about her dad via her blog and what a great recipe of love, eh?

“Thanks dad for the way you worked hard to provide for your family as we were growing up. I never heard you complain about the work load; I just watched you go about doing what needed to be done. I understand now why you were absent so often. You were busy providing for our needs.”

Strawberry Shortcake was my one of my all time favorite desserts when I was little.

In our family, the birthday tradition was to get to ask what you wanted for dinner!

For me, it was always rare roast beef, sliced very thin, steamed green beans and Strawberry Shortcake!

I met Joanne from Winelady Cooks via a party (surprise, surprise) and when she shared her Strawberry Cake “because it was her mother’s favorite,” I

Okay, HOW old am I?

Joanne shared via her blog:
“I remember my mom made bisquick biscuits for the shortcakes. She sliced each shortcake in half and added the fresh strawberries on the bottom, topped it with whipped cream then placed the remaining half on top. It was simply done and we all enjoyed the special spring/summer dessert.”

Joanne was particularly proud of making and sharing this with me as “…I wanted to make mom’s favorite Strawberry Shortcake to honor her and share my memories with my family.”

Do you love a good gnocchi?

I hope you will not tire of the fact, I met Janette of Culinary Ginger via a party where we shared a passion for food recipes and stories!

Janette shared via her blog:
“I took an interest at an early age in cooking and learned a lot by watching my mother in the kitchen. Today that tradition is carried on in my household in that I also like to cook every night.

Janette shared her Baked gnocchi with sage and cheese sauce because it is a special recipe that is  “so creamy and comforting” for her family.

Do you have a special and favorite holiday recipe?

When Cindy from Hun, What’s for Dinner? shared her Chocolate Roll with Candy Cane Whipped Cream with me, I S-Q-U-E-A-L-E-D!

It too reminded me of my childhood in New York!

While viewing the above, tears of joy come over me as I would love to share what Cindy shared with me:
Growing up Christmas was always such a magical time for my family. I would watch my mother bake tons of Christmas desserts and being in the kitchen with her was one of my favorite times. I got my passion for baking from my mom and this cake has always been a favorite of mine. So much so, that my mom still makes this cake for my birthday; if we happen to be visiting, during the Christmas holidays. When I see a recipe for a roll cake, it reminds me of home, my family and all of us being together.

Is there nothing better?

All blog comments make my day!

I do hope you will stop by each of the blogs above, please say G’day from me and if you enjoyed this post, I will look forward to seeing this post shared where you can and in turn ask your friends worldwide Are You Curious What Is So Special About These Recipes? {Pay It Forward}

Those first two Joanne look heavenly. I love apples and chocolate. I think that’s wonderful of you to share these stories and link to their recipes, thank you. Mom was telling me just today that she found some new recipes in a magazine that sounded good that we ought to try. We aren’t big cooks anymore but we do get tired of the same old things so we venture out from time to time and try something new. I’ll have to show her these.

My Dad is in heaven too but Mom is still with me and not a day goes by that I don’t tell her I love her. She’s the most precious thing to me and I just wish Dad was still here with us in the physical world.

Thank you again for this awesome share.
