Are You Curious About An AVOCROISSANT?

For those who have been following What’s On The List, you know my passion supporting local businesses and local producers who are as passionate about sharing their foods and wine history and stories behind what they do!

You may also remember experiencing the wonderful Flavours of Cambelltown Food Trail with me like in Back on The Flavours of Campbelltown Food Trail.

With over “30 registered businesses,” Flavours of Cambelltown Food Trail continues to be a great success and great for South Australian tourism!

You may remember being introduced to elbio patisserie & cafe via Conversations over Chivito and Churros and Are You Curious What’s So Special About Elbio Patisserie & Cafe to name a few.

When I recently heard about elbio patisserie & cafe‘s AVOCROISSANT with 50% less butter and 50% less saturated fat, I knew I just had to try one or two!

elbio patisserie & cafe is a great place for coffee and to get together with friends or family; it is now open 7 days a week!

I always enjoy the wonderful hospitality as staff always have FREE “warm and welcoming smiles” for each and every person who walks through the door!

I thought it would be fun to try a blind taste test (not blindfolded lol) to see how the new AVOCROISSANT stands up to what I previously enjoyed!

Upon the start of the blind taste test, being American born and bred, I had the ol’ time Western movie music going through my head! lol

Would the new AVOCROISSANT in town stand up to the previous winner?

CroissantsTime will tell!

What does one look for in an AVOCROISSANT?”, I “hear” you ask?

Croissant-texture Croissant Avocado-texture        (top photo is the original croissant; next two are the AVOCROISSANT)

The texture of the AVOCROISSANT was very similar to its “more buttery” companion and I was genuinely surprised it did not taste like avocado, smell like avocado or was green like an avocado.

I love avocados, so initially I really thought the AVOCROISSANT would taste like “an avocado croissant.”

There was a slight “tinge” when the two croissants were side by side, so one can visually see the difference between the two!

What is elbio’s secret why the new AVOCROISSANT is not green?

It’s a secret, and am sure when you come to try one, why it is not green will have your curiosity too!

The AVOCROISSANT is sold individually or comes frozen as a pack of four for your convenience, so you can warm or toast the new AVOCROISSANT at home; defrosted they can last up to 5 days.

I thought the taste was “light an airy” and I was delighted when I found out Elbio’s AVOCROISSANT comes in Plain or Grain.

For lunch, I enjoyed the Grain AVOCROISSANT with melted ham, cheese, salad and a cappuccino!

Note to Self: don’t let hunger get in the way of a good photo!

Also, don’t worry, while I was tempted to “lick the plate” getting up all the AVOCROISSANT flaky crumbs, I did restrain myself (if only for today!), but I have just left tasting the AVOCROISSANT and can’t wait to return for more!

Isn’t that what a “flaky and delicious” lunch is for?

The AVOCROISSANT is definitely a “healthy option choice winner” and with the 50% less butter and 50% less saturated fat, you too can now have your croissant and enjoy it too!

One cannot enjoy experiencing elbio patisserie & cafe without indulging in a cake, slice, danish, Chaja (a traditional Uruguay dessert with caramel sponge, meringue, vanilla cream,  and peaches) etc…I can go on, but suffice it to say, elbio patisserie cafe is “all about sweets.”

Seeing I was in a happy AVOCROISSANT mood, picking a dessert for me is usually by “a process of elimination.”

Today I was feeling a bit nostalgic, so when I saw the Chocolate Ricotta Cannoli and the Chocolate Eclair, it took my right back to my childhood in New York growing up around old world Italian and old world Greek families; I chose both to enjoy!

I have some “unique” childhood food memories to share about both the cannoli and the eclair, but that will have to wait for another day!

Suffice it to say, I thoroughly enjoy the “smooth and creamy” filling of the cannoli and could not decide which side to try first, so I had a little bit of each!

I loved the “crunch” of the cannoli pastry and how it falls apart (in a good way), followed by the “delectably delicious” custard-like filling of the eclair topped with chocolate; it was as if I died and went to “all things sweet” heaven!
